Making Change is excited to partner with MacLaren Art Centre, Shak’s World Community Centre and Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library to offer a unique art program geared to creative youth across Simcoe County! In recognition of Black History Month, Black youth, ages 12 to 18, are invited to participate in a couple of workshops to create a unique work of art—under the guidance of artist mentor & influencer Toronto-based Ashante Blackwood. Black Youth must register their art pieces or concepts in advance before the end of December 2023 for consideration. The focus of the program aims to celebrate the artistic talents of creative Black youth who use art to amplify their voice. There will be a gala exhibit showcases on Thursday, February 1st at the Bradford West Guillimbury Public Library, which will be open to the public, and Friday, February 2nd at MacLaren Art Centre. The opening gala will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.in the Zima Room at the Library and Cultural Centre.
The exhibit will be on display at the Library from Feb 1 to 11, and then will move to the McLaren Art Centre in Barrie.

A celebration of community hockey returns to Bradford West Gwillimbury on Saturday, February 3, 2024. The fifteenth annual Hockey Day in BWG will take place at the Bradford & District Memorial Community Centre with an indoor ball hockey tournament. Age division U7 teams from the BWG Minor Hockey Association compete against each other in fun mini-tournament. Participants will receive a medal.
Upstairs in the Auditorium there will be hockey themed games, face painting and the Bradford Lions serving coffee, hot chocolate and pancakes as a fundraiser (cash only).

Black History Month is a time to learn about the stories and many important contributions of local Black Canadians to the settlement, growth, and development of Simcoe County, and about the diversity of Black communities in Canada and their importance to the history of this country.

Winter Walk Day (WWD) is an annual celebration of winter walking that takes place on the first Wednesday of February.
Schools across Ontario will celebrate WWD with special events on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, or throughout the month. We encourage schools to participate by promoting walking and wheeling to school and organizing winter-themed walking events.
